Tampah Proof

Can you believe no one really goes to this beach!  Well not tourists anyway, not yet.  We met some locals here who lived right on the beach. No high rise here! Just living proof that you don’t need much in life to be happy.  If a westerner built a house here it would have a window facing the beach.  I suppose it is a bit different when building with bamboo, palm leaves and long grass.  Tampa 1 HR

The first time we came here we were met at the tourist gate by some delightful young locals.  They ran toward us with gusto shouting ‘touris touris’ anticipating that they were about to collect 5,000 rupiah for allowing us to access their remote and unspoilt beach.  This beach is very clean, not even a busted thong.  I spotted the little hand painted Tampah sign on the way to Selong Balanak in the South of Lombok Indonesia.  We spent our afternoon sipping beers and tucking into a nasi goreng at our favourite beach warung at Selong Balanak.

Then we dropped in to Tampah on our way back to Kuta (that’s Kuta Lombok not the Bali variety).  After having a quick look at the beach we went back to the little cluster of huts and shared smiles and laughter with the locals.  It is always great to see three and sometimes four generations of family and friends hanging out together.  What a life!
