End of Banjar Blues

WP_20150724_14_36_46_ProWell it was certainly worth the ride into Pangandaran West Java Indonesia.  Our tour party went from the Banjar Blues the previous evening, to the Green Canyon grateful.  The header picture was taken on the way to Green Canyon.  This area was a highlight of our tour for sure.

Cold Bintangs, great roads and sights galore.  As usual we attracted plenty of attention from the locals on the Classics. If it was not for our ongoing tour agenda we probably would have settled into this local tourist area for a few more days.  Bar beaches, live music and a very relaxed atmosphere made this a memorable place.  One I would certainly like to re-visit one day.  I discovered the locals were a bit tsunami aware on our second night there.  I was woken at about four in the morning to the building vibrating violently.  We had just received an earth tremor from nearby seismic activity some 80 kilometres away.  A very eerie feeling, especially as I heard several motorbikes start and depart our vicinity very rapidly.  Pangandaran was hit by an earthquake and tsunami in 2006 on July 17th when more than 600 people lost their lives so you can understand the trepidation of the locals.  I will always remember the feeling of “what the hell just happened”!  Earth tremors and quakes are not something we experience in my part of the world.  On a lighter note I told my room mate about the whole experience when he woke in the morning.  He was pretty pissed off that I had not woken him up during the tremor.  He felt he had missed a unique experience.  Probably suffering from a woolly head from the night before.  I had to laugh, he slept through the whole thing!
