Another classic day. Heading west from Kuta Lombok to Seketong. A fuel stop and change of plan saw us detour to Desert Point Bangko Bangko. An unbelieveable ride in until we hit the dirt. A five kilometre run that started with a shitty flat section of broken down road and rocks followed by an extremely technical ride up a rocky ridge. Big smiles and broken (busted) thongs, flip flops or whatever you want to call them. Some riders wear approprite riding gear. A select few tackle life in a different way. Anyway we made it up the shitty hill section and down the other side which was a whole lot better but still awful. Out onto a sandy flat, through a small village and stopped at Desert Point for a kopi. Would I recommend the ride all the way into Desert Point. Short answer no. If I were a surfer – why not! The sort of place you could kick back for a while. Whilst not absolutely pristine and awesome, it would certainly lend itself to a bohemian lifestyle for a short while, if you surfed. We finished our kopi and got on the road? again. Back through the village dodging chickens, rocks and rain, we rocked up the shitty hill and down and out through the flat unimproved road again. Ahh bitumen again at last. It was worth all the effort just to see the look on my pillion’s face. Not happy Jan! I think I might have “over toured” that day. All in all a great day’s ride. We were in the saddle for about six hours. Riding from Jakarta to Kuta Lombok we did that day after day albeit all on bitumen thank God. But that’s another story to be told later. Back around the water’s edge around the Seketong region. We still had not stopped for lunch. Given the appetite of one of my cohorts I am surprised we got to Desert Point without stopping for makan. I thought he was gonna perish, poor bastard! We made it to an Idomart and had icecreams for lunch – awesome. I then left the tour with pillion insitu. We tackled the rain all the way to Masbagik whilst my other two cohorts took a wonderful back road on their way back to Kuta. By all reports an awesome little ride through a few hill passes on a skinny and winding road. More details to follow on that once I get a description from the horses mouth.
